Emergency sirens

Do your emergency vehicles have different siren noises?
Can you immediately distinguish between them before you see the emergency vehicle?
What is your protocol for what to do when you see lights and hear sirens approaching?

I don't think the sirens differ between police, fire and ambulances here in Milwaukee, but fire engines have a blare they do as well. There's also an emergency alert siren for tornadoes and air raids and all (thankfully I've only ever heard that one tested).

The done thing is to pull over as much as you can and yield to any emergency vehicle that's got its flashers and siren engaged. It may be a law, but I couldn't swear to it.

The sirens are different, but in the heat of the moment it's hard to remember which is which (especially because police sirens can vary a lot by municipality). Fortunately, protocol is the same for all of it: Pull over & wait for them to pass.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
