RPG Battles: How do you handle them?

What's it like battling in your average RPG for you? How do you usually handle them?
For me, I hunt down every monster I come across. I never run from a fight unless it's absolutely necessary. In non-random encounter games, I empty a room of enemies before moving on. It's a good way to boost levels, and it's fun, anyway.
What about you? What're your battle strategies?

I rush through the game as fast as possible, fighting everything that gets in my way. Unless it's Super Paper Mario. Then I just kill everything because good platforming skills allow you to hit everything.

I kill them until I get bored of the ones in the area. Then I just avoid/run from them, until I reach a new area. Basically.

I'll kill anything that is in my way and run from battles that are too low for any experience or too difficult for my level.

In random encounter games I rarely run from battles, unless I have to get to a save point quickly.
In non-random encounter games, usually it's clear a room before moving on. Or on the way to another town, I'll grind heavily till low on HP/SP before going into the town and healing.
Although in games like Disgaea, you have no choice but to battle.

I kill everything in every room when playing non-random encounter games. More EXP FTW!
In random encounter games I usually fight every battle. The exception is when the developers put an absurd encounter rate for an area you're forced spend forever wondering around in. Then I probably end up running from a majority.
Regardless of encounter type, I usually have a huge number of healing items (and a technique or two), and I'm almost always several levels higher than what the game thinks I should be.

I clear rooms since most exp and gold comes from battles. I use the standard attacks and only use the special attacks if I absolutely need them usually. I keep as many of the cheapest potions (as in cheapest per hit point restored ratio) there are that I can reasonably carry instead of forking out the additional cash for the more powerful ones.
Then I save my money to buy or upgrade the ridiculously powerful weapon (such as the 65k gold demonic katana in chrono trigger) or upgrade the weapon with the most abundancy (such as handguns in resident evil) to make the most of the money I spent.
---
Although in games like Paper Mario, you're better off skipping as many enemeis as you can and only fighting the ones you encounter so that eventually you get 4 or 5 star points per battle instead of say 2 or 3 if you cleared every room thus far.
And lastly if I'm lazy and impatient then I will at times resort to skipping battles or unnecessary areas.

Since I love games like Fire Emblem and Tales games I never run unless I need to because of the diffuculty I have it set on. If I run to much I could cripple my abilities late game.

I usually end up exploring too much, and if there are random battles or reappearing monsters, I'll usually end up overlevelling. I try to run away instead of fight once I realize that I'm ruining the game for myself, unless I know it's supposed to be a grindfest sort of game (e.g. any RPG made SNES-era or earlier).

I almost always try to wipe out a room. It all depends on the rpg itself. Most action rpgs require the room cleared out, but I avoid any useless ones, or low-level fights when they serve no purpouse.

In random encounter, if I'm not just looking for fights in order to train, then I usually beat them, but sometimes I just try to avoid them whether it be rushing the game, being bored with the combat, having low hp,needing a save point, or for some other reason.
(It mostly depends on if it's an action rpg with random encounter like Kingdom Hearts, or a strategy rpg with random encounter like Pokemon)
In games without random encounter like Fire Emblem, I usually go and try to take them all out, but it mostly depends on if there is some kind of time limit or not. It also depends on the mood I'm in, and how bored I am, I might just feel like finishing the mission quickly sometimes.

I basically fight ones but I also experiment with stuff in random encounters. Shadow Hearts still had me experimenting with the battle system at the end of the game, and with games like Tales of and maybe Star Ocean, the characters have different styles and potentials, so thus in some games like Tales of Vesperia I'd decide to use the random encounters as ways to experiment with characters. Because face it...who wouldn't wanna send enemies flying and juggle them in mid-air with Judith?
Of course that's also how I found how annoyed I was with Karol and Raven. I just plain sucked with Raven and wasn't good with him at all and Karol's slowness tended to aggravate me to no end. Besides the computer played Raven better than I did anyways so why bother.
Plus I found that I liked playing as Natalia a lot in Tales of the Abyss. Almost as much as Luke and Asch.
Now in terms of games like Tactics Ogre or Fire Emblem, it's a little bit different since with those turn-based games you have to think ahead and take other stuff into advantage. Like say in Tactics Ogre, even a level 50 Leeroy can be killed if they're surrounded and the map with the like 12 Terror Knights can weaken a level 50 party. (I've done it) Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the plume? Move as a group...surround the enemy...try and knock them into the air...then unleash either Aguste's combos while they're still in the air or a multi-hit airborne attack.

With Planned encounters, I kill everyone and everything in the room.
With random encounters, I find myself getting pissed at the sheer number of them, and I run from whatever I feel is unnecessary.

I fight everything, unless I'm bored of the encounters. If I run too much, I won't level up and everything will become too hard.

I like that god-like feeling you get from over-leveling. If I'm wanting to level up, I usually locate a source of enemies with a good EXP vs effort ratio, and grind on them specifically.
