Talk about how you got into RPGs.

You'd never believe it, but Earthbound was actually my first RPG I ever played. I was into it because I saw screens and said to myself, "damn, a game that actually takes place in the real world, this should be fun!" And you know how I feel about that. FFIV came about 6 months later, and I was surprised to learn a whole genre of games was like this. Soon I started playing FFVI and SMRPG. Chrono Trigger was next, although I didn't start playing that until 1999. Then I started playing PSX RPGs, and well it's been downhill ever since.... -CSM

I played Pokemon Gold as my first RPG. It's deep and moving plot wows me to this day.

My first RPG as a young child was FF3 for the SNES (that would actually by FF6). I also played FF2 (SNES, actually FF4) and the original FF for the NES. I played Super Mario RPG when it came out... I remember stumbling across Chrono Trigger in early fourth grade.

Since then, I've done a lot more RPGing, I can't quite keep track of all the names.

It's either Dragon Warrior 1, Final Fantasy 1, or The Legend of Zelda. I forgot which one.

My frist RPG was FFVI, next was FFIV, FFMQ(hated it), FFV,(Again couldn't stand anything save the music and job system.) EB, CT, SMRPG,(Those four played by emulater.) FFVII, (Didn't like it.) FFT, LSSSC, (Lunar Silver Star Story Complete) LoL, (Legend of Lagia) KH, KHII, and I'm playing the KH CoM remake. So far I like the game but hate the battle system.

It probably started with Pokemon Red & Blue, though I had rented Mario RPG before then and gotten to the Axem Rangers.
I can't recall whether Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG came next, but they were the next two.
Secret of Mana may have come after that.
Then maybe KotOR 1&2 followed by Skies of Arcadia.

I'm not really sure. I've tried to play RPGs before, but couldn't really do good at them. I guess playing Final Fantasy 6 got me into RPGs, and I still can't get past the part where you have to protect that healing-guy from Kefka's soldiers, and then beat Kefka. Really hard part. Haven't beaten Chrono Trigger either, but awesome, awesome game.

What amazed me about FF6 was how something in 16-bit graphics could have such an amazing story, and awesome characters. I have great memories from playing it, such as riding the Ghost Train and then having to fight it.

Talking strictly about the JRPG genre (not action-adventures like Zelda, Metroid, et al)...

My first would probably be Super Mario RPG; it's a well made game that eased me into the genre. I then moved onto, of all things, Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest I), a pretty obtuse game that I ended up "enjoying" because there wasn't anything else around. I picked up FF7 for the PC and enjoyed that thoroughly, following with FF8 for PC. Once I discovered the joys of emulation, I started picking up random SNES JRPGs starting with Chrono Trigger (what I believe is the best JRPG made to date).

Don't really have time for full blown "epic" length JRPGs anymore (e.g. most Square-Enix games), the last of which was probably Chrono Cross or Lunar Silver Story Complete. Recently, I have picked up a few DS JRPGs of bite-sized length. Really, that's enough for me.

My first RPG... I think it was either Pokemon Blue or Paper Mario:TTYD. Then came Pokemon Gold, which I hated because of the saving glitch. I've been playing RPGs ever since.

Technically the first one I played was a demo of FF8 (Final Fantasy 8) , back in 98.
The first real one I started was The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.
The first one I finished the main story of was Pok'emon Crystal.

I played SMRPG first, back in about '97. I then got a Playstation with Guardian's Crusade and I began to have an addiction to turn-based combat; Pokemon further sunk that addiction in. I then moved on the the Final Fantasy series and a few other random PSX era RPGs, which launched my epic RPG collection. Other games of note in my early path of RPGs were the two Dark Cloud games and the Paper Mario games. It should be noted that I really, really got into RPGs early in the PS2 era, when I was old enough to really think about what I was playing.

It's actually kind of sad that I missed out on Chrono Trigger and stuff like that as a kid. I wish I had known what they were back then so I could have the same nostalgic connection to them that everyone else does. Still a great game, though.

Link's Awakening. Not DX. I played it on the Pocket and probably spent more time going to maximum brightness and maximum darkness for around a year (I was 4 or so) before actually making progress in it.

SMRPG was the first for me. After that it was probably (but not necessarily) Pokemon. After SMRPG everything just kind of blurs together.
