Square Enix recently announced that it has sold 80,000 copies of the Playstation 2 Final Fantasy XI expansion pack, Vision of Ziraat, on the game’s first day in Japanese stores. To put this into perspective, Squaresoft’s most recent first day figures include: Final Fantasy X-2, which sold 1.8 million copies; Kingdom Hearts, which sold 720,000 copies; and the original Final Fantasy XI which sold 200,000 copies (a number which could have easily been exceeded had Squaresoft not run into so many unforeseen complications that day). While the 80,000 figure may seem a bit small, bear in mind that this is simply an expansion pack and not an entirely new game.
Final Fantasy XI: Vision of Ziraat provides current online FF enthusiasts with more areas to explore, monsters to fight, quests to take and classes to assume. Most notably, it introduces various summon beasts which can be called into battle. With the North American beta-testing of the original Final Fantasy XI starting shortly, it seems like only a matter of time before Vision of Ziraat also becomes available here.
