Copy/pasted from the System Wars forum:
The FFIII engine prints money: Final Fantasy IV remake on the way - DS Fanboy
Looks that way.

That magazine scan is interesting, too. Here's hoping it's real.
Shane to buy a DS on release day?
Now all the Square haters can shake their heads in disgust....while planning to buy this. Square wants all our money.
They're gettin it, too.

You loser. I posted this this morning.
forums/rpg-forum-where-no-sword-too-big ... emake.html
You lose. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.
And on the record, I think it sucks. Square is dead to me. All they ever do now is remakes. They can go to hell.-jay

You have to be kidding. Half the complaints about Final Fantasy IV Advance is that it was a WonderSwan port with another dungeon and a new script. This is rebuilt from the ground up using the FFIII engine, and it's actually in the top three games in the series in terms of quality, and you don't like it? How?

I ranted my reasons for saying this sucks in the other topic you made.
Simply, it's an old game that Square is milking again, which doesn't excite me.

Likewise.
But it's not milking if they're taking the time to remake the game from the ground up.

How about they take that same amount of time.......
AND MAKE A NEW FREAKING GAME.
Naaaw... Stupid idea, Jay. What am I thinking? Square would never do that. Silly, Jay.-jay

I don't care about DQ.-jay

What you care about has nothing to do with the existence of games, Jay.

But it has everything to do with what I care about in my own universe. Since really, that's all that really matters. To me, of course.
You know, arguing with you in two separate topics at the same freaking time has to be the stupidest thing I've done in a long time. Hahaha.-jay

Except for saying Square doesn't make original games.

Maybe it does, but it's hard for me to care about their other games (supposing they exist, I'm still doubtful) when they've completely screwed with the FF series, the one series I actually played and enjoyed and trusted them with. And while they ignore other awesome series like Chrono.
If a crappy company makes an original game in the woods, and I don't give a damn about it anymore because they suck, does it make a sound?-jay

Once in a blue moon, Square will come out with something half decent though. Although we're going to see DS remakes of the good games until they get to VII when it'll be on the PS3. And they'll go all the way to XIII before starting something new.
And the main reason they're not doing Chrono is because the members of the Chrono team who still want to do it want to do it with everyone so it doesn't suck (hint: remember Chrono Cross?), and unfortunately Kitase and Toryama sold out, and Kato and Mitsuda want to do it with them. -CSM

When you say Kitase and Toriyama "sold out", what does that exactly mean?

I have no opinion, though I did like IV, but I hated III DS, for my reasons.
I'll see what happens with it first, before planning to buy it. Hopefully it won't be hurt by some of the things III DS was hurt by (Like the whole "no more than 3 enemies thing"), and teh thing IV Adv was hurt by (lag)

They milked the success of Final Fantasy and Dragonball, respectively, to the point where they became massive profit bringers and instead of focusing on new stuff, decided to milk them for all their worth. -CSM

You realize that Toriyama was forced into all Dragonball work beyond the Freezer saga, right, and that that's the reason you don't really see him doing any high-profile manga right now? He obviously has good relations with Square-Enix, as he's still doing designs for all the Dragon Quests, so there's no question that if he were approached for it he could work on a new Chrono game.
The real problem with the Chrono games is that they don't sell well enough to even spit at. As much as it's loved on the internet, I think Chrono Trigger sold - what? A quarter million copies? It's not a big number, whatever it is.
X-3: The FFIV Advanced port was rushed as Hell and not optimized for the GBA hardware. The FFIII engine was built from the ground-up for the DS, so we shouldn't have that problem here.
Not that there were many encounters in FFIV that had mroe than three enemies anyway, except for specific boss battles and a few small, easily-rendered enemies.

Well, it certainly was a million seller in Japan. Worldwide it sold THREE million. And if they made it in Japan they'd make it here.
And I know about Toriyama because he doesn't like to talk to the public about what he wants to do. -CSM

Are you kidding???

Owned.
Looking around crap references like Wikipedia, it looks like CT sold well over 3 million, and CC around 1.5 million.
And that's even taking into account that CC sucked.
No, the real reason why Square isn't making more Chrono games is because they're morons who have their heads up their asses.
