^You actually like it BETTER then the SNES version? After they butchered all our favorite names?

This is why I'm not buying any remakes except a 3-D Chrono Trigger remake on the DS or Wii if Square ever gets some intelligence. -CSM

Um, I never said I liked it better than the SNES version.

Actually, since I just bought it today, and played it for a total of 5 minutes, I can't really say yet how I like it compared to the original.

My first post was mainly just a general statement of the awesomeness of FF3/6 in general.

Since I don't have my SNES here, and the PSX version sucks (load times) and I haven't played FF3/6 in years, FF6 Adv. was a good purchase.

Plus, this topic is just a general statement for how much better FF6 is compared to FF12, heh.-jay

Yeah, I think I have to agree. I used to flip-flop for a while, but I've decided that Chrono Trigger is simply the greatest game ever made.

Of course, that may change after I play FF3 again on GBA, heh.-jay

They give you a bonus dungeon in exchange for a butchered soundtrack and translation. LONG LIVE WOOLSEY! -CSM

The soundtrack actually sounds better in some parts, particularly in the opera.

And if you think the original translation holds a candle to the new one, you're simply wrong. There's no comparison.

Yes, this is the definitive version of the game. Which is better than Chrono Trigger.

Doesn't it have new Espers? Leviathan, Gilgamesh, Jumbo Cactaur, Diablo? Sounds cool.

I donno, so far the translation and the music don't really bother me.

And so far, I actually kinda like the idea of a new translation. It just makes it more interesting to play through the entire game again (for the Xth time).

It makes the game a little more interesting when I have new stuff to read.

Although I found one re-translation that sucked. When they introduced Shadow, they didn't say "He'd slit his momma's throat for a nickel." Lame.-jay

I'm sure a lot of the other one liners were taken out. Here are some of the classics I bet they removed...

"Gonna toss it all!"

"There are more girls in here than grains of sand out there!"

"Not a word of this to anyone, O Shrouded one"

"Let me at the Empire!"

And many more. -CSM

Jay doesn't mention that the new line is, if I remember, "He'd kill his best friend for the right price," which is a lot more poignant when referring to Shadow.

The chief difference here is that the new translation is simply a lot more seriously handled than the previous one - light moments are kept light where appropriate, but Celes' out-of-character sarcastic comment towards Kefka when he moves the god statues around? That's gone. And good riddance.

Play it. Keep playing it. It's so good.

Bah, I don't care about poignancy. I want my classic quotes at least. They can change the rest of it. But keep the classics.

I mean, come on, the nickle line was one of the best.

Oh, and they did keep the "more girls than grains of sand" one, I just got to that part.

But if they take out "Gonna...toss...it...all!", then I'll be really pissed.-jay

Here's a new great one-liner for you:

"I hear that some fanatical members of the Cult of Kefka insist on spelling Kefka's name with Cs instead of Ks."

If you don't get THAT one, GTFO.

^That's actually decent. But "He'd slit his momma's throat for a nickel" > "He'd kill his best friend for the right price." Get it right.

Here are some others they'll probably chuck:

"How can you make a GP in a world like this?"
"Magic? Psaw, what nonsense!"
"Narshe is a neutral city. We want no war here, but that %&# Empire won't listen!"
"Call me a Treasure Hunter or I'll rip your lungs out!" and related quotes
"I'm a general! Not some love startled twit"
"Mr. Thou is THAT one. Over THERE!"
"I hate hate hate hate......." (you know the rest)
"It just might suit you that you fall asleep laughing!"
"What a fuddy duddy"

And all these are from Ultros:

"Game over! Don't tease the octopus kids!"
"I aint no Garden variety octopus!"
"Gee haw gee haw I'm a receptionist!"
"Uncle Ulty REALLY wants you to draw his portrait"
"Mr. Chupon, come on down!"
"Imp! Pal! Buddy!"

Frankly, anyone who thinks those are bad, and anyone who is happy those are replaced, deserves to be shot. I rarely say such things, but this is one of those rare instances. -CSM

I'm sure they kept some of them, while replaced others. Just have to wait and see. But yeah, all of those lines you mentioned are classics.

I'm sure they'll keep all of the Mr. Thou jokes, otherwise that whole scene would be stupid.

And I'm sure they'll keep the Ultros jokes, since, really, is there any other point to Ultros? Also, they used the "Don't tease the octopus, kids!" joke in FF12, so they have to keep that one.

Anyway, I will say again that I agree that a retranslation can be nice, to give the game a fresh look. But they need to keep the classics. I mean, in FF4, they kept "spoony bard". They know how to do it.-jay
