Okay so that 75 year cut off, does that apply to a work only if the creator has passed on or not? Also isn't there a statute of limitation for bringing forth a copyright suit?

^Actually, Sonny Bono went all anal (along with "we take public domain stories and make movies about them because that's the easiest way to make $$$" Disney) and had copyrights extended to 90 years, I think. Why do I think if Big Content gets its way we won't be able to see ANY original creations because of fear that a measure of a song might be close enough to a measure of one of their copyrighted songs? -CSM

Digital Copyright Slider

I find it interesting that you're railing against Disney reworking public domain stories, but are perfectly fine with the Mother series doing unauthorised covers of more recent songs, CSM.

^I don't hear a single cover in the EB soundtrack. In order to hear the sounds that sound close to songs, you have to break each track into its parts and in some cases speed them up or slow them down. -CSM

Don't get me started on that BS! I don't care what the court said "Ice Ice Baby" is "Under Pressure!" A one note diffrence does NOT make it an orignal song! Okay I'll stop ranting about that now sorry.

I've gotta put this out there. It's not truely confirmed as to whether there was an actual official english version of Earthbound Zero out there. The way they make it sound so secretly auctioned off and no true confirmation may make it a bit sketchy. Also, translating a rom could make it pass off as a legit copy. If Nintendo did truely translate it, then I'd have to say the reason it wasn't released was because of the release of the SNES closing in that sales of the copy would be pretty hard to manage.

The thing is there are always two sides to a story. Nintendo may have very good reasons not to have released Mother 3 on the GBA and there is probably a good explanation as to why Earthbound Zero wasn't released.

IO do find it slightly amusing that all you RPG fans are obsessing over a game that is basically put there just to parody other RPGs. The storyline isn't what you'd call spectacular and it doesn't get much more generic than visitng 8 dungeons collecting some sounds for a stone only to lead you to a final area with the main boss.

^Because we get sick of people in ridiculous getup from time to time, and we get sick of jerkoffs for lead characters from time to time, and we need a good laugh. We need something different from time to time. We're sick of Jpop-influenced music from time to time. We like parody because parody is funny. Tell me, what's more funny to fight? A monster that is basically a root of a grass clump or a moving highway sign? -CSM

What better way to lampoon a consol RPG then to take the most overused elements and run with then? Also I've got to say that setting it in 1950's suberbia is a nice tuoch as well.

New Age Retro Hippy FTW!

I honestly can't find what people like WvsW are talking about. The original Mother was one of the earliest console RPGs, so its ability to parody was limited. I read that the reason it chose the setting it did (80's or 90's, I forgot), is because all the other RPGs were "Knight fights Dragon" crap. It was really innovative and different just for its setting alone.

The series is fine in every aspect. The graphics are acceptable, the music is good, the gameplay is good, and the setting and storyline are one-of-a-kind. I think that makes a wonderful game, but maybe you're looking for something different, but it's just what I was looking for..

And besides, fancy graphics don't make a game. Just ask these guys.

More importantly, if it were made by Coca-Cola®, it would have been rereleased now, for Coca-Cola® knows how to treat its customers.

Yeah, um, CSM, the whole Earthbound fans that are making a huge deal out of this? They're not allowed to whine compared to what us Tales fans go through.

We've had FIVE main games never released here, some with some very deep stories and incredible battle systems. We also never got the original Phantasia on SNES or the PS1 remake, as well as the PS2 remake of Destiny, one of the most intense battle systems ever in a Tales game. There are also the Narakiri games on the Gameboy Color and Advance. Want to complain about how unfair it is? There's no reason any of these games couldn't have been released here.

^ Two third of our games haven't been released, one's been cancelled and remade on a lesser system, and the only one game from the SNES era we do have isn't even going to get the proper treatment; it's not coming back through the VC. Don't wanna compare whines, but EB gamers got it way worse IMO.
