Oh yeah, another character who you think sucks, but doesn't...
Geomancers on Final Fantasy 3 DS.
Until Final Fantasy 3 DS, they blew chunks but in 3, they're acrually pretty good. They do decent damage even with their physical attacks, and their abilities do physical damage. You do occasionally get Whirlpool, which doesn't always work, but near the end of my Geomancer's run, he'd occasionally get Shadow Flare which would hit for damage in the Vegeta Level. In all, I was most surprised with that class in 3 DS.

Yeah, Geomancers were mediocre at best. I guess I'm going to have to get that DS remake to compare now.
I'm not sure if anyone thinks Cyan sucks, but he's pretty underrated nevertheless. So you have to wait a little while for his attacks. He's definitely not the best character, but at least he's more reliable than Seltzer. :P
And just in case anyone's playing through the original Final Fantasy III, be sure to change back to Onion Knight towards the end of the game. I've never actually tried for getting the Onion equipment from the dragons, but I hear it makes Onion Knight the most powerful class in the game.
