I think it's all smoke-and-mirrors from hopeful fanboys and fangirls.

Squeenix says no, but I wouldn't be surprised if they pull it on us anyways, in the future. Not that I'd be complaining or anything.

pretty much every final fantasy doesn't live up to the name of "Final"....final fantasy should mean the end to come...

It was supposed to be a last-ditch attempt at being a success. If Final Fantasy (the first) did not sell, Square would've folded.

Also, I don't like your use of ellipses.

I find it funny that all these new "Final" Fantasies have sequels and prequels.....not making them so "final" either.

It's called irony. Welcome to earth.

But yeah, it wouldn't shock me if they eventually made a FF7 remake. They've already remade all of the rest of their games a BILLION times.

And yet, no more games in the Chrono series.

Yay, Whoresoft.-jay

I wonder if the surprise has to be Final Fantasy related? I found it pretty shocking that Square was releasing Dragon Quest IX on the DS and Dragon Quest Swords onto the Wii.

^Well, considering it's supposed to be a "Final Fantasy" surprise...

Let's hope the surprise is actually somewhat good, and more then more remakes of the first few games.

^How about something different. Like a prequel to FFVI or FFX or a sequel to FFIV. -CSM

How could there be a prequel to Final Fantasy VI? There is nothing before Tetra, Biggs, and Wedge's invasion on Magitech Armor that isn't explained in-game.

Final Fantasy VI was the best that Square could do, which is actually one of the greatest games I have ever seen.

They need to do something related to FFIX, which is too damned underrated. You KNOW it has to be neglected as hell if its neglected status isn't even enough to make Jay give it a passing glance.

Let's face it: Several companies nowadays are whistling past our little Sakaguchi/Amano/Uematsu-less Squeenix. Nowadays, I have higher hopes for (likely better) studios such as Level 5 and Mistwalker. In fact, the only reason I still care about Square is the awesomeness of Radiata Stories, and of course FF9, but FF9 was before the damned merge anyway. Hell, it even seems that Enix was better off before the merge, but I wouldn't know for sure.

Either way, this surprise better make me crap my pants in happiness, or else I've lost all hope. And they also need to unveil a Star Ocean 4 and a Radiata Stories 2. Now. (And the RS2 better be longer, because the first one just was way too short.... But damn, it was fun.)

Oh yeah. Something FFIX related would kick ass.

The problem with Mistwalker is it's developing most of its games for the 360. -CSM

Hey, I gave FF9 a chance. I never got into FF9. It didn't help that my first time through, I somehow lost my data when I was near the end of the game on Disc 3.

It took me a few years to finally go back and finish it. I think I didn't get around to it until after I beat FF10. But I did beat 9.

Really, I think the only FF game that I actually *loved* was 6. The rest were either just ok or annoying.

So far, I'm just not seeing 12 at all. I got back into it for a while, but the plot is just too lame, and I keep getting sidetracked and bogged down by these stupid hunts. Now I'm in one of my "I just don't feel like playing it for a month" moods.-jay

I actually enjoy going hunting. And the plot is quite simple, yes, but it's not overcomplicated like some of the other games (I actually know what's going on, instead of getting to the end being like "Oh, that's what was happening"). Although I do agree that there could be more meat to the plot. But, personally, I don't think it's all that bad.
