12th Nintendoland Battlefield Tournament Signups

The 12th Nintendoland Battlefield Tournament

Welcome to the newest installment in this hallowed tournament. First of all, thank you, R18, for first coming up with this; Second, thank you, SML, for keeping it alive for so long.

It seems the general consensus is that we do another of these; I've modified the rules a tad to reduce judge lag, and have signed myself up already for this shindig as a combatant.

Without further ado, let us begin sign ups.

1. This will be judged by three people and have sixteen combatants. All round battles are in ONE TOPIC, such as “First Round” will be for the first set, and “Second Round” for the second, etc. This matches the most recent and also the most classic form for the NLBFT, as it was the first form used and also the most recent, as reinstated by SML.

2. This is for serious battlers only. I won’t restrict who joins and who doesn’t, but if you cannot write, do not join this very important event, for either judge or battler. By saying “Cannot Type”, I mean no spaces, punctuation, capitalization, etc. I would prefer that only seniors and vets join, but newbies of high skill level and regular members are just as welcome. It is a free forum, after all. Remember, this is a tournament of high pedigree, and you will likely be facing tough opponents, so do not expect to be baby treated. High quality posts will probably be a must from the judges, and you would do best to remember that. Judges must be older members with a healthy amount of experience and lack of bias. Please heavily consider the responsibilities, as any judge who does not post a judgment within a week of the round’s end (with only a few exceptions) will be replaced or confronted.

3. There is a strict time limit. I've reset this to 2 days before a full point is lost, and one more before you're up for either another deduction or possible elimination. I'll make exceptions where due, but we need to make this a little quicker than last time around. Remember this, as it is standard, and complaints will only be considered if not simply whining. Also, reasons to have been absent are to be discussed by the judges as acceptable or not. If your computer explodes and you had no access to another, fine, but if you simply were too bored to try, it is elimination. It sounds retarded, but it isn’t. Trust me.

4. The judges word is final. I want to see good sportsmanship from the loser, and likewise from winner. I will be honest and tell you that if I lose my battle, I will not complain. Simply put, it is un-sportsmanlike and very dishonorable.

5. The first to post has battlefield choice in their specific battle. Make it something past generic, and give it some specialty and pizzazz. Not to say having an interesting battlefield is a rule, it’s just kind of useful.

While I have been rusty in terms of role play combat, my writing itself has been improving. I'll sign up for the Alpha division.

Awesome, you were also the first to sign up last year.

Anyway, yeah. My writing is really rusty since last time around, since I've written nothing of worth since then. I just hope I do better than last time. I went from champion to first-round loser. :P

Sign me up in whichever division you so choose. Since my battle with Selene was spoiled by inactivity, consider this the true return.

I suppose this is a good way to bring me back into the battling spirit.

I'll join. Any idea how long until the tournament will be up after we get enough players? I have an idea for my characters, but I need to add some more things to them and post them in the book of warriors. Either division is fine with me.

I'll be in the Beta division. I'm just returning, but I was quite active years ago and I'm definitely not a newbie.

Hmm yeah sorry for being kinda retarded, but I'm actually gonna drop out. I actually should be looking after my school work instead of hanging out here so much. I doubt I would be able to keep up with things during the tourney so I'm gonna have to withdraw.

I'll judge.
Plus, I'll post my judging criteria and points system before the matches even start, so that those that want more certainty have it.

Mind if I suggest a rule modification, too? How about the judges work on a time-based system too? Let's say ... 7 days before it kicks in. Then with every 'tick' of the days that judge loses 0.2 of their score weighting. So if I was late by a day my scores would be worth 0.8 times what I give them. In addition, any score weighting lost would be distributed to the others evenly (so one day's loss means 1.1 for the two on time judges).

No offense, Kar, but what purpose would that serve? I'd be pretty peeved if I was a day later than someone, and that meant my judgement was worth less. It certainly wouldn't act as an incentive towards me doing it any faster, either. Sometimes life gets in the way, but I've always judged within a perfectly reasonable and respectful timeframe.
Nonsense, I have not yet begun to defile myself.

You assume the motives of the judge are to control who wins. That is incorrect.

Therefore, your premise is incorrect, therefore your argument is invalid, because it would be implying that judges want to control who wins, therefore they will judge on time or faster when threatened with a loss of this control.

For if they don't want to control who wins but merely judge....

Then they aren't going to be effected by your conclusion, and it will do nothing but annoy the other people, who will see themselves as being penalized if the judge, say, favored them, and what you said then causes that score to stop helping them as much as it should.

I've always been more interested in what the judges said than how much their descision weighed :p Although really, there have been insitances where the timings of the judges have been retarded, life or no life. Either way it's no call to change the rules around.
