Announcements and Suggestions

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS TOPIC:
Quite obviously, the point of this topic is to make important announcements of upcoming events, allow for voting on certain topics I bring up, and also for events and such that Repster has planned. If you have any suggestions, plant them here, and Repster and I will toss it among ourselves and probably among the public for opinions and such.

Keep it logical, folks!

GUNJIN PLANNED EVENTS (These events have been planned by me. Unless further edited, none of these ideas thus far are from the public or approved and/or supported by my fellow mod, Repster. Also, none of these ideas as of yet are Repster’s. These are events that will highly likely take place, but I would like early feedback for success estimates! Read on, folks…)

Event one (likely will occur a month or so after the final round of the NLBFT): The Second Gunjin/Battlefield Tournament of Red Lions. This event is stemmed from 1) My desire to revive this damage-based gem that Wyborn created a year or so back, and 2) Noticing that Tourney hype has made the Gunjin Community itch for another go at it. I plan to be a judge in this endeavor, and would like someone else to host (and battle in it as well, if they wish). Please tell me in this topic if you would like to host this upcoming event.

Event Two: An official RP. “Official” is a hasty term. In actuality, I want to make an RP that the whole Gunjin is willing to try, and therefore I have concocted three plans, one of which eliminating the idea of mass participation:

A): An RP centering around a race of some sort. This race would involve free-form battling and story-building, and it will be suggested that everyone at least contribute in one way or another. This is the idea I like; if anyone has a suggestion for a plot, please feel free to post it.

B) A topic revolving around both gaining new members for and developing the topic for the VGF Collective work. We could each post, and then extract workable ideas from our RP post. Heck, the RP posts might even be well-enough written to warrant an inclusion in the finished topic. This idea is iffy and not recommended as an official RP, merely a suggestion I wanted to lay on everyone.

C) A veteran/senior Gunjin participant only RP, which I already have a plot and sign-up sheet for. If anyone is interested in this one, let me know.
(Disclaimer about “Veteran and Senior” status: Admittedly, I am much less exacting about this subject that Joker was. I believe a veteran is any seasoned warrior with relatively good to awesome ability, and at least three or four years under their belt. I believe a senior is someone with the same skills, but fewer years of having been here under his belt. I consider myself a senior, whereas someone such as Repster or Wyborn is a Veteran. Neither of these two titles is better than the other, and they carry the same weight: One is a symbol of skill and longevity, the other a symbol of extreme skill and relative staying-power.)

And lastly, Event Three: This is a very iffy idea, but it sounds a bit nice. If done, it would take the place of the all-inclusive RP idea, and I would do the Vet-Senior only event in its place (unless the general response is a NO to both of them). This is an attempt to do a second “WAR” topic, like Alex did, except this time structure it a tad better and make it all-inclusive. The idea behind War was a several-man team versus another several-man team in a Battle Royal; therefore, having, oh, say, a ten-man team versus another ten-man team is a spectacle not to be missed. There will be no judges, but I will appoint a referee. (total number of participants required: 21) I like this idea for its greatness in scale, and I hope this is a choice of event to do first. This event will also likely play out to a point in which a person is knocked out, another can take his place. If there is enough interest, there could be enough people to go two rounds. (doubtful, though.) Anyway, yeah, consider this one. Please give feedback on these three ideas.

I would like to take a vote, so if you post in this topic, please tell me whether you approve of each idea or not.

i.e: Event 1: Approve
Event 2: Disapprove
Event 3: Approve.

It’s that simple. I’ll tally the results at the bottom of this post.

Ideas that I would like feedback on:
Currently, none other than the three I posted. If you have any suggestions, please post them. I have no earth-shattering announcements to make, but I don’t know about whether Rep does or doesn’t. I’ll hand the reins over to him now, and then let you guys decide on the ideas I’ve put forth.
Approvals/Disapprovals:
Event 1:
5AP, 0 DP
Event 2:
5AP, 0DP
Event 3:
5AP, 0DP

Event 1: Approve

Event 2: Approve
I would like to see an event where character interaction matter in a long run.

Something like an Only Die Once ongoing topic.

Event 3: Approve but only if someone takes the responsibility to be a proper GM

Also, please use less of the bold type, its harder to read and makes things longer than necessary.

First of all, The Tournament of Red Lions, if you weren't bringing it back, I was going to. It has such a different flavor to it that the change is needed. Not to mention that I see things going as follows.

NLBFT
The tournament of Red Lions
NLBFT
Some other tournament type thing. Possibly team based.

Thus keeping an official tournament or sign up sheet going at all times. Which is good.

3 months is supposed to be enough to run a tourney smoothly. Without delays the current NLBFT would be over by now, or in a couple of days. I lost track.

Event 2.The official RP as you suggest it. Defiantly need more RPs. One thing though, the idea for an all Senior/Veteran just does not play kindly to me. I'm thinking more along the lines of a "proof of skill" post of some sort. Something basic, no need to be fancy, but it give a quick yes or no for that topic. Except for those that don't need proof of course. Simply put, it would be the best place for newbie types with a natural knack to try things out surrounded by those who know what they're doing, or should anyway. Not that that means I won't support you imposing the Senior limit any less, just saying is all.

numbah 3 I'm all for the huge war type things. Mass chaos is always welcomed. With enough people, their is room for slack on either side. That's always one thing that kills a topic. Slack.

I'm also considering just a random theme based free-for-all. A new one every so often. It keeps things fresh and pine scented. The real pine scent not those imitation pine scents. Mmmmm pine...

t3hDarkness. Interaction always matters in the long run if YOU make it matter. Most of the time RP topics do carry some reprecautions ( I know that's not how you spell it. Got a migraine, can't figure out how to fix it, not gonna try.) from the interaction within. there just hasn't been that enough of them in awhile to show any examples.

One last Note. We'll need to chose a particular gift and wording for Tourney victories. "proof" of victory if you will.

^HotD actually has a custom title prepared for the victor of this NLBFT, but she has yet to disclose its official name. Also, yes, I agree with each of your thoughts... We absolutely need a tourney or event going on all of the time to generate interest. As soon as next Thursday comes, we will be ready to begin on some new events.

Also, there is the RP. I also agree on this, that there should be an official, all inclusive RP. The question is, will there be an RP first or will the War come first? I personally believe they should be done at seperate times to avoid confusion.

As for the war, I will make certain that there is no slack, and that is a guarantee. Of course, afterward, that would end up being the Ref's responsibilty, but I will still keep my eye on it. (I plan on participating as a fighter...)

At all times?!

You're going to burn the participants out and take a lot of focus off of challenges.
Two or three times a year is good enough don't you think?

^...Okay. Thank you. Yes, we could do that, but the point is, there is a STRONG possibility that we recieve new members or returing veterans before that point. Please, think about that. Also, it won't be DIRECTLY at all times. Each tourney takes three months, and not everyone gets to participate. Besides, not everything will be the same. There will be a difference, and you don't have to participate in all four.

Please consider the thought behind our decisions.

Also, according to Repster's reasoning and setup, there will only be four tournaments a year.

We need an event at any time to attract attention, and challenges will not be halted. Its not like an event has required participation, and you don't have to stop what you are doing to join. It's not a rule. Its whatever you want to do.

Also, you could have put that last post in a more... calm... way. Still, I understand your concern, just make it more peaceful next time... heh.

I'm a little confused by that, but I think Irby approved all three as well.

^Must I explain? You kind of came off as if you were talking down to me. That is all.

Also, I'm going to edit the post now...

1) Approve. I never did get off to the 'most violence wins' scenario, but a team tourney would be amusing and welcome. I tend to be more active when I've got someone breathing down my neck about something.

2) Approve, though I would like to echo the sentiments of friend Darkness about someone having to GM. Maybe it doesn't have to be one person all the time, perhaps rotating them out... *shrug*

3) I'm not going to say that I disapprove, but only on the basis that I don't want to ruin anybody else's fun. I just know that when the last mass confusion topic came about, I posted in it, and the next day's posts would have taken me two hours to figure out what the hades was going on. Go for it if you must, but unless the scale is limited (perhaps to, say, six to eight contenders?) I won't be joining.

Also, I think there should be some more battlefield recognition of major holidays. Perhaps a costume ball for Halloween, where everyone makes a second user account, and at the end, we guess who was who.

I'll be unleasing something by the end of the tourney (BUT I'M NOT TELLING YOU! MWAHAHA!)

And I'll have an RP topic afterwards!

^Ooh! A surprise! Alex like surprises!
A team based tourney.... THE BEST IDEA!!! EVER!!!!
Kinda like the several I had back when I sucked...and the one I had before the NLBFT came around.

Event 1: I approve! Though, we might not want to make it as big as the NLBFT.

Event 2: This sounds good, too. No, I will not give an explanation.

Event 3: I saw the word "war" in it. I read further to see my name. Since I was the originator of "War" I would love to see a second one.

Why do we need a ref in a 10-on-10?

Posted: Fri Feb 02, 2007 6:49 pm
by Galefore
^...I really don't know. I think I put that there to stay the chaos, but in the end, since I would prefer it to get hectic, I suppose a referee isn't REALLY necessary. Good call, Wyborn.

Edit: I would also like to see some public ideas, so please, throw them out there if desired. As well as that, it seems that my ideas have been cemented. Repster's ideas are also cemented, and therefore expect them to happen soon. I would still like some public suggestions or event plans, so please fell free to post something you would like to see happen or will do yourself.

Tazy seems to be planning something big, and I am eager to see what it is...

I'd definately love to see a FFA Tournament.

For those of you who wouldn't know what that would look like, here is an example tounament match line-up thing.

Round 1:

A vs B vs C

D vs E vs F

X vs Y vs Z

Winners: A, E, and Z

Next Round

A vs E vs Z

ANNOUNCEMENT: I'm going to post the Tournament of Red Lions sign-up sheet soon. Please be prepared, and decide whether or not you desire to join. I need to go and find one of the rule-sheets, however, and it seems the sign-up topic is long gone.

WYBORN: If you can, and if you view this, please, PLEASE send me the original ruleset for the TORL. I would greatly appreciate it.

I see that no-one else has any suggestions. So far, as is, the events seem to come in this order:

NLBFT 10

Tourney of Red Lions

Tazy's event

Official RP (please give me input on how you want this thing to play out...)

War Topic.

All of these things ill start up within the next month. I will have a few more announcements next month, but since we already have several major events taking place, there probably won't be many more events announced until a couple of months from now. I still have some other stuff in the works.

also, I'm planning on starting a Zelda based battle, like old times. If anyone has input, feel free to share.

Lastly, I am open to any more suggestions. Please, spew out any idea you have so we can work with it. The more the merrier, eh?
